(Sumter County, Georgia, Book 21, pages 148-149) Georgia Sumter County To the Honorable Court of Ordinary of Said County; The petition of Mrs. Elizabeth Edge respectfully Showeth that D.M. Edge late of said county departed this life on the 1st day of June 1899 leaving your petitioner, his widow and one minor child surviving him and she pray your Honorable Court in conformity with the Statute in such case made and provided to appoint five discrete and proper persons to act as appraisers in setting apart to your petitioner and one minor child as aforesaid the sum necessary in their judgement for Support and Maintenance for the Space of twelve months from the death of Said D.M. Edge of your petitioner and her child wither in money or such property as may be selected by said petitioner by said appraisers; And also to set upon the Sufficient amount of household furniture for the use of your petitioner and her child; And further to request said appraisers to return to you for record their proceedings ; and your petitioner will ever pray; Elizabeth Edge , Petitioner Georgia Sumter County I S.H. Edge administrator of Estate of D.M. Edge deceased do hereby acknowledge due and legal service of notice of the application of Elizabeth Edge and her minor child for twelve months support. Edge deceased for the appointment of appraisers to set apart to said widow and her said minor child a sum necessary for their Support and Maintenance for the space of twelve months out of the said estate of the said D. M. Edge deceased and also to set apart for the use of said widow and child a sufficient amount of household furniture. It is ordered that W. D. Haynes, T. R. Murphy, J. I. Hudson, T. J. Morgan and G. W. Council ____ and they are hereby appointed appraisers and they or a majority of them are hereby empowered to set off and assign to the said Mrs. Elizabeth Edge widow of D. M. Edge deceased late of said County and her minor child out of the estate of the said deceased a sum necessary for their support and maintenance of said widow and child for the space of twelve months and also a sufficient amount of household furniture for the use of the widow and child; And the said sum so set upon as aforesaid to be either in money or such property as the said widow may select at a fair valuation to be made by said appraisers. Further ordered that said appraisers return to me for record all the proceeding in the premises; given under my hand and official signature 7th day of August 1899. A.C. June 1, 1899) who lived in the 882nd district of Schley County per 1870 and 1880 Schley County censuses as well as Schley County tax digests. He married Elizabeth Penn Edge (b. July 11, 1836, d. January 11, 1911), daughter of Simpson Edge and Evaline S. Penn Edge. APPRAISEMENT OF ESTATE OF D. M. Council = These are to authorize you or any three of you whose names are here where written to collect and appraise the goods and chattels land tenements rights or credits of D. M. Edge deceased: Whatsoever any of the good chattels lands tenements rights or credits of said deceased and within the County of Sumter and which shall be shown unto you by the administrator, S.H. Edge; or come to your knowledge or sight; you having first taken an oath before same authorized person: to make a true and perfect appraisement and inventory thereof and to cause the same to be returned under your hands or carry three of you to the said Court within two months from the date thereof In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my hand and seal this 7th day of August 1899.
