March Term Thursday 18th 1858

Georgia Sumter } In the Superior Court of said County
County         } the petition of Peter Faust respectfully showeth
he is the reported? & and he has but little doubt the real
father of an illegitimate orphan child named Amanda 
Melvena Wilkerson about twenty years of age whose
mother Charlotte Wilkerson is dead. That for a long time
she has been residing in the family of your petition as
one of his children of whom he has six legitimate children
and as he is getting advanced in life & feeling it his duty 
to provide for the said Amanda Melvina Faust (and scratched out)
(she scratched out) as well as the others he prays that her name be
changed to that of Amanda Melvina Faust and she made 
legitimate and capable of inheriting the estate of your
Petitioner in all respects and in the same manner of his
children and your petitioner will our? pray.

Upon hearing the above & forgoing petitioner it is ordered &
adjudged by the Court that the prayer of the Petitioner 
be granted and that the name of Amanda Melvina Wilkerson
a female minor of the age of 20 years daughter of Charlotte
Wilkerson deceased & orphan illegitimate child of Peter Faust
be & the same ? her be changed to that of Amanda Melvina
Faust & she is hereby made & declared to be legitimate and
capable of inheriting the estate of said Peter Faust her
??reported?? father with & among his other children as she 
were born in lawful wedlock, and that she shall be 
hereafter known by the name of Amanda Melvina Faust
and the petition is hereby ??
