It is the opinion of this family Nicholas and Needham "Wesley" Bass are one and the same. He always went by Wesley and there are no records yet to prove this. Wesley Bass was a resident of Sumter Co Ga. all of his life and was married to Amanda "Manda" Parker, d/o Caleb Parker. Three children lived to become adults. William Ackis (my grandfather), Albert Hinkle and Robert B. Bass. Submitted by: Winnette Stinson, gnw@rose.net. FOR APPLICANTS HERETOFORE ALLOWED PENSIONS STATE OF GEORGIA Sumter County. Personally appeared before me N. W. Bass of the county of Sumter, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn, deposes and says that he has been a bona fide resident of said State, and has resided therein continuously every since the day of my birth in 1846; that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States or of this State, as a Private in Company H Regiment of 64th Georgia Volunteers and that while engaged in such military service, to wit: at the battle or engagement of Ocean Pond in the State of Florida on the 20th day of February 1864, he was wound in the right arm above the elbow and that the same was amputated in Macon Georgia that he has not received the payment allowed him for such limb under an Act entitled an Act to carry into effect the last clause of Paragraph 1, Section 1, Article 7 of the Constitution of 1877, approved September 20th, 1879; that he has not supplied himself with an artificial arm or that, not having done so, he prefers to supply himself with an artificial limb ( he prefers money in lieu of??). COMMISSIONED OFFICER'S AFFIDAVIT STATE OF GEORGIA Sumter, County. Personally came before me R. A. Brown of the county of Sumter, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn, deposes and says that he was a Captain of Company H 64th Regiment and that N.W. Bass, the above deponent was a Private in said Company, and that this deponent knows that said, N. W. Bass lost an arm in the military service as said in the above affidavit. Bass the applicant for loss of arm, and am well satisfied that the facts stated by him in the foregoing affidavit are true, and that I am well acquainted with N. W. Bass and Captain R. H. Brown and am satisfied that the facts stated in this application are true , the citizens who make their affidavit, that they are respecatble citizens of this country, and that the facts stated by them are true.
