On this 3 day of February, A.D. one thousand eight hundred and eighty 7 personally appeared before me J.H. Allen, Clerk of Sup. Ct. in and for the County and State aforesaid, the same being a Court of Record Joseph McMath aged 62 years, a resident of near Americus, County of Sumter State of Georgia, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical Joseph McMath, who served the full period of 365 days in the Military service of the United States in the war with Mexico, and who enlisted under the name of Joseph McMath as a private in company G of Captain Jos. A. S. Turner in the 1 GA regiment, which was commanded by Colonel Henry R. Jackson and was honorably discharged as a private at New Orleans La., on or about the last May or first June 1847; that during said service the said soldier accompanied his command into Mexico, and participated in the following engagements: as an infantry man at Vera Cruz, and one skirmish near Monterey. Since his discharge from said service he has resided as follows: a few years in Marion Co. Ga. from 1869-73. other years near Americus, Sumter Co. Ga. That he has not been in the military or naval service of the United States since his said discharge That his Discharge Certificate was sent off to get the Land Bounty That he was married at Sumter Co. Ga. on the 3 of Aug. 1848 to Mary Ann Howell who is living and the lawful wife of applicant. That he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension rolls of the United State, under the provision of any act of Congress, providing pension to surviving soldiers, sailors or marines who served in the war of 1846, 1847 and 1848 with Mexico; and hereby constitutes and appoints, with full power of substitution and revocation. Snow & Co of Washington, D.C., his true and lawful attorney to prosecute his claim. He also declares that he has heretofore made his application for bounty land by selling same to a Company in New Orleans about time discharge was received as aforesaid. Applicant declares that he was born near Warrenton in the County of Warren and State of Georgia, that he is 62 years of age, 6 feet - inches his, of fair complexion, blue eyes, gray hair, and by occupation farmer. A. S. Turner, in the regiment of Henry R. D. one thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven, personally appeared before me, Joseph McMath, a resident of Americus, in the county of Sumter, in the State of Georgia, who, being by me first duly sworn according to law, deposes and says: I am the identical Joseph McMath, who served under the name of Joseph McMath, as a private in the company commanded by Captain J. A. S. Turner, in the 1 Ga. regiment of Ga. Volunteers, commanded by Col. H. R. Jackson, in the war with Mexico; that I enlisted at Americus, Ga., on or about the 4th day of June, A. D. 1887, for the term of 12 months, and was honorably discharged at New Orleans, on or about the 30 day of May A. D. 1887. FIRST GROUP OF FACTS WHICH WILL ENTITLE TO PENSION: That being duly enlisted, as aforesaid, I actually served sixty days with the Army or Navy of the United States in Mexico, or on the coast or frontier thereof, or en route thereto, in the war with that Nation, which service was as follows: an infantry private in said Regiment and engaged in Battle of Vera Cruz and a skirmish near Monterey (a.) That I am 62 years of age, having been born at Warren Co on the 2nd day of Jan, 1825 SECOND GROUP OF FACTS WHICH WILL ENTITLE TO PENSION: That being so actually enlisted as aforesaid -- (a.) That I am 62 1/4 years of age, having been born at Warren Co. on the 2 day of Jan, A. D. 1825. (or b.) I was actually engaged in battle with the enemy in the war with Mexico, to wit: In the battle of Vera Cruz, on or about the 27 day of ___, 18___. That I am now married; that the maiden name of my wife was Mary A. Howell, to whom I was married at Sumter Co, in the State of Georgia, on the 3 day of Aug., A.D. 1848; that my wife is now alive That in support and proof of my right to pension I tender herewith, under the regulations prescribed by the Secretary of the Interior, the following evidence: The affidavits of Patrick Bass and A. A. S. Turner, in the 1st regiment of 1st Ga. Regt. of Vols. commanded by Col. H. R. Jackson in the war with Mexico; That my said husband enlisted at Americus Ga. and mustered in at Columbus, Ga. on or about June, A. D. 1846 for the term of twelve months; That I was married under my name of Mary Ann Howell to my said husband by Rev. Isaac Hart on or about the 3rd day of August, A.D. 1848 at Sumter Co. Ga., in the State of Georgia, and lived with my said husband from the date of my said marriage until the day of his death, to wit: the 20th day of Sept, A.D. 1892, when my said husband died at Sumter Co. in the State of Georgia, and that I have not since remarried; That there was never any legal impediment to said marriage. No. 1. That my said husband, being duly enlisted as aforesaid, actually served sixty days with the Army of the United States in Mexico and on the coast or frontier thereof, and en route thereto, in the war with that Nation which service was a s follows: a private soldier in Co G. and was honorably discharged at New Orleans La. on May, A. D. 1847 No. 2. That my said husband was actually engaged in a battle in said war, to wit: in the battle of Vera Cruz, and was honorably discharged at New Orleans La. on May, A. D. 1847 No. 3. That I claim pension by reason of the fact that I am dependent in whole or in part for my support upon my sons, W.T., J.S., E. J., R. L., & B. H. Ansley, who, being by me first duly sworn, deposes and says: I have known at least forty five years Mrs. Mary Ann McMath, and I was requested by said Mary Ann McMath to sign my name as a witness to the declaration for pension under the Act of January 29, 1887, sworn to by her on the 30th day of Jany, A. D. 1893; and that at her request I so signed my name as witness; that the said Mary Ann McMath is the identical person who signed the foregoing declaration, and who is therein described as the widow of Joseph McMath, who enlisted in the Company of Captain J. A. S. Turner, in the regiment commanded by Col. Henry R. Jackson in the Mexican War, as in the said declaration set out; that the said Mary Ann McMath was married to the said Joseph McMath under the name of Mary Ann Howell, by reputation by Rev. Isaac Hart, on or about A.D. 1848, at Sumter Co, in the State of Ga., and lived with her said husband from the date of her said marriage until the date of his death, to wit: the 20 day of Sept, A. D. 1892, when the said Joseph McMath husband of said Mary Ann McMath, died at Sumter Co, in the State of Georgia, and that there was at no time any legal impediment to the said marriage, and that the said Mary Ann McMath has not since remarried; that the said Joseph McMath, husband of said Mary Ann, claiming as widow, had not been previously married; that said Mary Ann, now claiming as widow has not been previously married; and these facts I swear to from knowledge obtained as follows: my own knowledge No. 1. That the said Joseph McMath, husband of said Mary Ann actually served sixty days with the Army of the United Sates in Mexico and on the coast and frontier and en route thereto, in the war with that Nation; that I swear to these facts from knowledge obtained as follows: I was a member of the same regiment and company; served with him personally nearly a year, went out with him and same home with him No. 2. That the said Joseph McMath, husband of said Mary Ann, was actually engaged in a battle in said war, to wit: in the battle of Vera Cruz, at Vera Cruz, on A. D. 1847, and was honorably discharged, and these facts I swear to from knowledge obtained as follows: I saw him receive his discharge at New Orleans, and saw him in the battle of Vera Cruz, a member of his company. That the said Mary Ann McMath is dependent in whole or in part for her support, and I swear to the fact of dependence from knowledge obtained from and based upon the following facts I know her age and financial condition No. 5. D. one thousand eight hundred and ninety five, personally appeared before me, Clerk of the Superior Court for the County and State aforesaid, Mrs. Mary Ann McMath aged 62 years, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of Joseph McMath, deceased, who was the identical person who served under the name of Joseph McMath, as a private in the company commanded by Capt. J. A. S. Turner in the first Regiment of Georgia Volunteers, commanded by Col. Henry R. Jackson in the Mexican War; that he enlisted at Columbus, Georgia on or about the 16th day of June, A. D. 1846, and was discharged at New Orleans La, on about the 2nd day of June, A. D. 1847; that he was engaged in the following named battles: Bombardment of Vera Cruz and some light skirmishing, that he was not otherwise employed in the military or naval service of the United States. That at the time of entering the service claimed for, her said husband was twenty years of age, five feet ten inches in height, with blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, by occupation a farmer, and that he was born at County of Jones, State of Georgia That after leaving the service he resided in Sumter County, Georgia until his death That she was married to him on the third day of August, A. D. 1848, in Sumter County, Ga., by Isaac Hart a Baptist Minister, under the name of Mary Ann Howell; that he had not been previously married; that she had not been previously married That her said husband died in Sumter County, Ga., on the twenty eight day of September, A. D. 1892; that she has not since remarried. That she is 62 years of age, and was born on the 19th day of September, A.D. 1833, in Twiggs County, Georgia That she has been dependent for support in part since Sept 28th A. D. 1892, upon her sons not legally bound for her support; that she owns real estate as follows: a small farm, which yields fifty dollars per year rent and personal property as follows: none and that her income from all sources except her own labor is fifty dollars per year. That she has heretofore made application for pension; that the number of her claim is 11108; That she is not a pensioner of the United States; that she has not made application for bounty land; that her husband did make application for pension, the number of his claim being ----; that her husband was a pensioner of the United States under Certificate No. 5173; that he did not make application for bounty land That she makes this application for the purpose of obtaining a pension under the provisions of the act approved January 29, 1887; and hereby appoints Charles R.
