S. McCorkle, of Americus, has been in town this week. Mrs. Clifford Lowe and Charlie Lowe went down to Americus Sunday to meet W.H. Lowe. Dr. J.J. Worsham, of Americus, was at the Buena Vista House Wednesday doing dental work. Maj. W.L. Glessner, of the Americus Recorder, accompanied the Alexander party to Buena Vista. Ben Reese has gone down on the farm with his brother Otis at Plains of Dura. Ben is going to try pulling a bell line over a mule this year. Miss Lilla Reese returned home Friday afternoon, after spending Christmas holidays with her sister, Mrs. Jas. S. McCorkle, of Americus. C.S. Crawford, presenting G.W. Glover of Americus, was in town Tuesday. Sam is an old Buena Vista boy, and his friends here are always glad to see him. Misses Minnie and Sallie Lowe left Monday morning for Americus where they will stay several days and will then go to Lumpkin and spend some time with Miss Cora Pearson. Poole, of Americus, came up Sunday morning on the special train which went down Saturday night to carry the stockholders and returned Sunday morning. Lowe, representing a wholesale house at Americus, was in town this week on business and visiting relatives here. Henry Lumpkin, of Americus, came up to attend court and will remain awhile to recuperate his health. He looks little the worse for having had several chills. Mr. J.J. Williford, of Americus, was in town this week. He has abiding faith in the new town of Rochelle, in Dooly County in which he has a large interest. Miss Hattie Lemon returned to her home at Americus Wednesday morning. Mr. J.W. Wheatley, of Americus, has been here this week as a witness in the Mallory case. Col. E.G. Simmons came up from Americus Saturday afternoon to get ready for court Monday morning. Mrs. Simmons came up with him and visited her mother, Mrs. J.F. Hollis. Ed Mathis, of Americus, has been in town this week visiting relatives. He went out to Hollis mill Friday fishing and a log broke on which he was crossing the creek and gave him a ducking. Dr. J.J. Worsham, of Americus, has been in town a few days this week. Mr. O.E. Lowe, wife and children, of Americus, are visiting the family of Col. J.H. Lowe. The engine made a special run to Americus Sunday morning to carry Mr. Tom Harrold, son of President Harrold, on a visit to his home folks. Mr. Harrold is one of the surveying party on the road between here and Columbus. The Marion County Patriot Friday, May 11, 1888 Page Three Very Generous The president of the Buena Vista and Ellaville railroad, Mr. U.B. Harrold, has tendered the use of his train free to the Sunday school children and their parents to attend the picnic at Dr. McMichael’s on the 18th inst. We also learn that Mr. Harrold will tender to the schools of Buena Vista and Ellaville a free excursion to Americus some time in June or July. No doubt our schools will memorialize Mr. Harrold with suitable resolutions for his kind consideration for the schools. Mrs. Sallie Mathis and Miss Evie Stokes visited relatives at Americus last Monday. Mrs. O.E. Lowe and children returned to their home at Americus Wednesday morning. Miss Susie Taylor went down to Americus yesterday morning and will return this afternoon. Bloom Brown, of Americus, visited relatives in town Friday and attended the Sunday school picnic at Dr. McMichael’s. Henry Lumpkin, Lum Minter, Will Harvey, Lon Stokes and Miss Georgia Glover, who were among the Americus party at the picnic Friday came to Buena Vista and spent the night with relatives and friends and returned home Saturday morning.
