Americus Man To Keep Baby Woman Left In His Care

Americus, Dec. 16 – 

T.M. Furlow, an Americus man widely known throughout this section, was
victimized by a woman who left her baby with him in the Macon Union station a
day or two ago and disappeared.

The woman, stylishly attired, and to all appearances a lady of refinement,
accosted Mr. Furlow in the station and asked him to purchase a ticket for her,
naming the station she wished to visit.  Always accommodating, Mr. Furlow
accepted the woman’s money and went to the ticket window where he bought her a
ticket.  Returning he handed it to her, whereupon the mysterious woman stated
that is had been punched to the wrong station.  Mr. Furlow offered to have it
exchanged, but instead she asked him to hold her baby while she went to the
window.  As soon as Mr. Furlow had the baby in his arms, the woman disappeared
and although diligent search was instituted for her, she has not yet been found
or heard from.  With the baby the woman left a blanket and a bottle of milk,
which served to keep the youngster warm and quiet until the party reached
Americus where Mr. and Mrs. Furlow secured needed articles and carried the baby
to their suburban home.

Today he states the baby would be taken into his home as one of his own family
and that the child would be brought up under Christian influences and educated
as one of his own children, of which he already has several.
