She, in company with a Mrs. Dunn, were walking down the track towards the A.P. & L. trestle to get a turn of wood, and when near the railroad shops at the foot of Church street saw the express train approaching. Mrs. Dunn at once stepped from the track, and advised Lizzie to do so, but the later replied that she could “out run the train,” and immediately started down the track at a lively gait. Engineer Frank McGhee sounded the whistle but did not slacken speed at once, he expected every moment to see her step from the track, but as she continued running, he set the airbrakes and tried to stop the train, but in a second, almost, the pilot struck her, throwing her some ten or fifteen feet beyond the rail. The woman died in a few minutes (the rest of the last sentence is blurred.)
