Weekley Times=Recorder Americus, Thursday Morning, January 15, 1914 Page 1. DIED UNDER HIS ENGINE IN WRECK ON SEABOARD. Fatal Accident Yesterday Resulted In The Death of Engineer Lee Hightower of Americus---Engine Turned Over at Hannon, Ala., Killing the Young Engineer and Badly Injuring His Fireman---Engineer Hightower a Resident of Americus; Body Brought Here. Engineer Lee Hightower, of Americus, was instantly killed and his colored fireman badly injured when Seaboard freight train No. 53 was wrecked yesterday afternoon at Hannon, Ala., a small station near Hurtsboro… He is survived by his young wife, who was Miss Carrie Gray, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. W. C. Gray, of this city…. The deceased was about thirt years of age and one of the best engineers, and most popular in the service of the Seaboard. To the young wife and stricken relatives deepest sympathy is extended. The funeral services will be held this afternoon from the residence of Mr. & Mrs. Grey at 3 o’clock. Interrment will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Rev. R. L. Bivins will officiate. Fellow members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineer will serve as pallbearers. The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Carolina Hightower. His father and mother, Mr. And Mrs. G. W. Hightower, of Helena, and a brother, C. M. Hightower, and a sister, Miss Sadie Hightower, both of Helena. Friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral exercises this afternoon.
