MORTUARY.

Americus, Ga., June 2-
Major William A. Nelson, aged 82 years, and widely known resident of Americus, 
died this morning at his plantation here.  Major Nelson was a native of Putnam 
county but has resided here more than half a century.  Before the civil war, 
through which he served, he was president of Furlow Masonic Female College, one 
of the prominent institutions of antebellum days.  The funeral this afternoon 
was attended with Masonic honors.
