Monday, April 8, 1963, Front Page. Americus, Sumter Co., GA Tuesday Funeral Rites Frank D. Stapleton, 68, Local Civic Leader Dies Frank D. Stapleton, 68, businessman and outstanding local civic leader, died at the Americus and Sumter County Hospital Sunday about 8 P. M. following an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Sumter County, he was the son of the late Lawson and Leila Davenport Stapleton. Mr. Stapleton was a veteran of World War I and took an active part in affairs of the American Legion. He was a member and past commander of John D. Mathis Post 2 here. The prominent citizen was also a member of Calvary Episcopal Church. Survivors include his widow, the former Elsie Birdsong; three daughters, Mrs. John F. Buchanan, Decatur, Misses Frances and Elsie Stapleton, both of Americus; two brothers, Lawson D. Stapleton and Walter D. Stapleton, of Americus; and one nephew, Walter Stapleton, Jr. of Americus. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a. m. from Calvary Episcopal Church with Father David Pritchard officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Members of the ___ American Legion and ___ ___ ___ will serve as honorary pall bearers. Reese Park Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
