Stapleton, Meadowbrook Drive, died last night at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta after a long illness. The prominent Americus citizen is survived by three daughters, Mrs. John Buchanan, Decatur, Mrs. Edward Roberts and Miss Elsie Stapleton, both of Americus; also two brother-in-laws, Walter D. Stapleton, Sr., and Lawson Stapleton of Americus. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Reese Park Chapel. Mrs. Elsie Stapleton Mrs. Elsie Birdsong Stapleton, 58, Meadowbrook Drive, died early Thursday morning at the Emory University Hospital in Atlanta after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Stapleton was the widow of Frank D. Stapleton. She was a native of Gordon and had lived in Americus for the past 32 years. She was a member of the Calvary Episcopal Church. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. John Buchanan, Decatur, Mrs. Edward Roberts and Miss Elsie Stapleton, both of Americus, a step-mother, Mrs. W. O. Birdsong, Gordon, three sisters, Mrs. James E. Hall, Miss Grace Birdsong, both of Gordon, and Mrs. Virginia Calloway, of Albany, two brothers, Dr. William Birdsong, Macon, and Kenneth Birdsong, of Gordon. Funeral services were held at 4:00 P. M. today from the Calvary Episcopal Church. The Rev. David Pritchard officiated. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Active pall bearers were Robert Perry, W. E. Smith, Henry Collier, Frank Myers, Marvin McNeeill, and Charles Lanier. Honorary pall bearers were Henry Crisp, J. B. Dorsey, Jr., Eddie Legrande, Dr. A. C. Primrose, Judge T. O. Marshall, Henry Walker, Buddy Pearlman, Dr. J. H. Robinson, Charles F. Crisp, Bill Baumert, T. L. Martin, Bill Moncrief, Bill Pittman, and Will Sullivan.
