F. Stapleton Civic Leader Passes Dr. Sidney Franklin Stapleton 72, prominent Americus veterinarian, died early Wednesday morning at the Americus and Sumter County Hospital. He had been in declining health for several months and had been rushed to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after an attack. Dr. Stapleton, of 605 Harrold Ave., was a native of Bronwood, Ga. and had resided in Americus since 1922 when he began the practice of veterinary medicine here. He was the son of the late Dr. J. L. Stapleton and Mrs. Marian Killian Stapleton. He was a graduate of Mercer University and also the Ohio State University Veterinary School. The civic leader was a past president of the Americus Kiwanis Club, a life member and past president of the Georgia Veterinary Medical Assn., and past president of the Southern Veterinary Medical Assn. He was also a member of the Central Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Eva Nouse Stapleton, Americus; one son, Dr. Robert T. Stapleton, Fayetteville, N. C.; one brother, Hiram Stapleton, Lakeland; and four grandchildren. Funeral services are planned Thursday at 3 p. m. from Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Clarence Graddick officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Members of the Americus Kiwanis Club will serve as honorary pall bearers. Reese Park Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Stapleton, 72, of 605 Harrold Ave., who died early Wednesday morning at the Americus and Sumter County Hospital, were planned at 3 P. M. today from Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Clarence B. Graddick officiating. The prominent local citizen had been in declining health. Active pall bearers included Charlie Smith, Luther Bell, Ed Jones, Charlie Hogg, Charles Wall and Charles F. Lanier.
