Rumph, seventy-eight years of age and widely known in Americus and Sumter County, shot himself through the head with a revolver yesterday morning, death resulting instantaneously. It is believed that the bullet was fired with suicidal intent. Mr. Rumph had resided with his family near Friendship, twelve miles west of Americus, for several years past. It is said that the fatal shot was fired in the presence of some member of his family, which fact would given color to the belief that the old man, tired of life, sought destruction by his own hand as described. Old age and mental despondency no doubt, induced the terrible deed. Mr. Rumph, when a resident of Americus was engaged in the cotton business and was a well known figure about the warehouse. Recently he was able to do but little. He will be buried at The Plains today. – Americus Times-Recorder File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/sumter/obits/r/ob6118rumph.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.6 Kb
