MORTUARY.

Americus, Ga., October 21-
Major Charles C. Shepard, among the oldest and most esteemed citizens of 
Sumter, died today after a brief illness.  Major Shepard was born in Washington 
county, but had resided here fifty years.  He was among the most honored 
citizens of Sumter.  His life work was one of benevolence and open-handed 
charity and many live to honor his memory.
