Bradford Willis Eliza Eleanor Smith Bayne (December 20, 1867-November 18, 1952) was the daughter of Anthony Garnett Smith, Jr. and Elizabeth M. Smith, pioneers of Upson and Talbot Counties. Eleanor married Charles E. Bayne (January 15, 1855-August 8, 1915). They and some of their children are buried in the Smith plot at Glenwood Cemetery in Thomaston. The following obituary was found by Mr. Claude C. Burgess of the Thomaston-Upson Archives: Mr. Charles E. Bayne Dead. Mr. Charles E. Bayne, one of the best known citizens of Thomaston, died last Friday morning in a sanitarium in Atlanta following an operation. He had been in ill health for about a year. He underwent an operation in Atlanta a few months ago, but complications necessitated another operation which was performed a few days ago from which he did not recover. Mr. Bayne's body was brought to Thomaston Friday evening and was laid to rest in Glenwood cemetery Saturday morning, an impressive funeral and burial service being conducted by Elders S. T. Bently and W. J. Heard. The funeral was attended by a large number of friends and relatives. Mr. Bayne had been connected with the business life of Thomaston for about thirty years and was well known to the people of this section among whom he had lots of friends who will be grieved by his death. The deceased was 58 years of age and was a member of the Primitive Baptist church, his membership being at Friendship. Mr. Bayne had been married three times. His first wife was Miss Alice Martin and of this union three children are now living: Mrs. Paul E. Wilkes, of Atlanta, Misses Adel and Mabel Bayne, of Dallas, Texas. His second wife was Miss Alice Murray. His third wife was Miss Eleanor Smith and she and four children, Misses Emily, Olive, Elizabeth and Eleanor Bayne, survive him. In the death of Mr. Charles E. Bayne, Thomaston has lost one of its best citizens and the Times joins the people of the community in extending sympathy to the sorrowing family in its bereavement.
