Martin The subject of this sketch was on Wednesday last elected by the General Assembly of Georgia Judge of the Chattahoochee Circuit to fill the unexpired term made vacant by the death of Ex-Governor J.M. Smith. Judge Martin was born and reared in the good old county of Talbot, he is now in the forty-third year of his life. He received an old field school education at Collinsworth Academy, near Redbone. When quite young he entered the store of the late Erbin Leonard as a clerk and afterward entered the mercantile business at Pleasant Hill. In 1873 Judge Martin and his brother, W.H. Martin, entered the livery and sale stable business in Talbotton, and having some leisure time, he, while engaged in this business commenced the study of law. All of his life this had been his desire, and he had devoted every spare moment to studying. He was admitted to the bar in 1875 and at once gave up all of his other business and entered in active practice. Since then his success in his profession has been met with marked success. Judge Martin represented this county once in the legislature, and was a delegate to the Chicago convention that nominated Cleveland for the Presidency the first time. Being upright, honest and impartial, well versed in law and a hard student, we feel assured his administration of the law will be wise and just and that he will meet the hearty support of the entire bar of the circuit and of the people.
