Holmes William Thomas Holmes (b. 1810 in Columbia, South Carolina) was the fifth son and the last child. When the family moved to Georgia, he was about seven years old. He met Mary Lucinda Owen, who was from Wilkes County, GA, and married her in 1829. They were pioneer settlers in Talbot County, Georgia, first buying 101 ¼ acres of plantation land there in 1829. Another 120 ½ acres were acquired in 1831 and 202 ½ acres in 1832. As he prospered more land was added at later dates, some even in Arkansas in the 1870's (Swamp Land Patents, following his older brother's [Finley Holmes] lead). For many years, his plantation was adjoining or near the lands of his father-in-law, David Owen. William T. Holmes farmed all his life. William and his wife had 16 children - one male son died at birth in 1858. The surviving children, all born in Talbot County, GA were: Sarah Jane Holmes (b. 1831, d. 1856 - married Richard "Henry" Leonard [b. 1826, d. 1895] ), Daniel Owen Holmes (b. 1833, d. 1834), Frances Elizabeth "Fannie" Holmes (b. 1834, d. 1914 - married James Hamilton "Jimmie" Bryan MD [b. 1836, d. 1898] ), Mary Catharine "Kate" Holmes (b. 1836, d. 1865 - married Rev. Stephen David Clements [b. 1832, d. 1921] ), Martha Owen Holmes (b. 1838, d. 1839), Eugenia Isabella Holmes (b. 1840, d. 1844), Martha Dixon "Mattie" Holmes (b. 1842, d. 1903 - married Ossian Daniel Gorman [b. 1841, d. 1924] ), Mildred Ann Holmes (b. 1843, d. 1844), William Thomas Holmes Jr. (b. 1845, d. 1928 - married Jane Hines "Jennie" Evans Holmes [b. 1847, d. 1931] ), Finley Owen Holmes (b. 1847, d. 1909 - married Mary Catherine "Kate" Mahone Holmes [b. 1847, d. 1904] ), Robert Augustus Holmes (b. 1848, d. 1914 - never married), James Grant Holmes (b. 1850, d. 1851), Jane "Jennie" Downs Holmes (b. 1853, d. 1936 - never married), John Owen Holmes (b. 1855, d. 1916 - married Mary Lou Hayes Holmes [b. 1859, d. 1934] ), and Emma Isabella Holmes (b. 1857, d. 1909 - never married). Of the children, all stayed in Talbot County, Georgia, and are buried there. William T. Holmes and Mary L. Holmes died about 3 months apart in 1888 and are buried in the Daniel Owen Family Cemetery in Bellview, Talbot County, Georgia.
