He drew land in the 1827 Georgia Land Lottery as a Revolutionary War Soldier and resident of Jackson County. He received a grant of land for his services. Descendant of George Menefee. Daughter of James T. Menefee and Clara Wittick, his wife. Granddaughter of William Menefee and Eliza Boring, his wife. ( m: September 15, 1822 in Jackson County, Georgia) Gr-granddaughter of George Menefee and Elizabeth Tatum, his 1st wife. George Menefee served with the Georgia troops and received a grant of land. He died, 1840, in Talbot County, Ga. GA. Buried on his land.LL249 23rd. Dist. Talbotton, GA. Owner is now Mr. Johnny Mathews. The grave originally had a roof. No grave marker. A descendant went to Talbotton to visit gravesite, roof falling, she ordered grave marker from Washington. Death year incorrect-1837. He wrote his will Oct 1840, probate of will Jan 1841, Talbotton, GA. Major Willis Pentecost Menefee born 1814 GA died June 1855 Palmetto, GA, Willis and his mother Nancy were buried on his plantation, Palmetto, GA. In 1980 they were exhumed, their bodies moved to Downtown Park, Palmetto, GA. Menefee home burned at Talbot Co., GA, the widow, Nancy A. Collier Menefee to Palmetto, Campbell Co. Ga to live with son. Campbell is discontinued is now Fulton Co. GA. Her ancestor was Martha Ann who married Gen. Allen Lawhon. In George’s will his name was spelled Manyfee, sometimes it is Minifee, Menifee, and sometimes Menifye. He came to Talbot Co from Jackson Co.where his children were born ======= Notes: Sidney and Dawn Smith I know where his (George Menefee)cemetary is. His is the only marked grave in the cemetary. I looks to have about 6 grave total. If interested, I will get you its location. If I am not mistaken, he started Collinsworth Methodis Church. In a small building behind his home near his burial location. The church was later moved east of his home and a fine building was erected.
