BENJAMIN MITCHELL

Benjamin Mitchell was born in Georgia, August 17, 1777, and
died December 21, 1849 aged 72 years.  He was born in
Hancock County, the son of William and Ruth Jackson
Mitchell.  He was a memberf of the First Militia Battalion
of Warren County.  Warrenton was the meeting place of this
battalion. The 1797 roll of officers shows Benjamin Mitchell
as a Lieutenant of the Battalion.

Following the opening of land east of the Ocmulgee River by
the Land lottery of 1802-05, he moved to Wilkinson County
and settled about 12 miles southwest of Irwinton (towards
Jeffersonville).  

In 1827 the land lottery opened up western lands, and he
moved to original Muscogee, then Talbot County District 15
and 24.

Benjamin Mitchell's children include:

will)

Alice Lowry (Twiggs or Wilkinnson July 12, 1832 2) Margaret
Caroline Riley, Talbot Oct 4, 1837. Buried in Sherman Texas,
West View Cemetery June 20, 1891. Died while visiting his
son.
