Bradford Willis, DDS Wesley Asbury Smith, MD (March 26, 1853-July 4, 1926) was the son of Anthony Garnett Smith, Jr. and Elizabeth M. Smith, pioneers of Upson County and Talbot County, Georgia. Dr. Wesley A. Smith came to Texas in 1886 after graduating with honors from the Louisville Medical College and in 1887 married Nellie Welch (1867-1893). For a time, he was associated in the drug business with Dr. James G. Adams. Over the years, he and his family lived in Branchville, Millican, and Hearne, Texas. He was a member of the Methodist Church since childhood. Dr. and Mrs. W. A. Smith had two children: Alline Garnett Smith (1890-1957) and E. E. Smith (1893-1893). Alline Garnett Smith married Roy Smith and was an avid genealogist and a member of the DAR. Many Welch-Smith family members are buried in Norwood Cemetery in Hearne. Dr. Wesley Asbury Smith had a sister, Adalade "Addie" Smith Howell (July 20, 1865-Apr. 20, 1951), who lived in Hill County and McLennan County, Texas. He would visit his widowed sister and her family often.
