In September 1946 parents of high school students from the Woodland Consolidated High School petitioned the Talbot County Board of Education to form a central high school in Talbotton for the high school students of the Woodland Consolidated High School and Talbotton High School. This petition cited a decline in enrollment at the Woodland School as the reason for their desire to consolidate with the Talbotton High School. In April of 1947 the Talbot County Board of Education voted to consolidate Woodland Consolidated High School and Talbotton High School which would be named TALBOT COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL. In August of 1947 the voters of Talbot County for the purpose of renovating the existing Talbotton High School building approved a bond issue for $55,000.00. This renovation was not completed in time for the beginning of the 1947-1948 school year. The Board of Education voted to transport the Talbotton High School students to Woodland Consolidated High School until renovations were complete. Mr. James F. Woodall who was principal of the Woodland school and had been for many years was named by the Board of Education to serve as principal of Talbot County High School. In the early weeks of 1948 renovations were completed at the Talbotton School and all the students were transferred to TALBOT COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL. Soon after school started the faculty and student body chose green and gold as the school colors. The athletic teams were known statewide as The Talbot County High School Hornets. These teams were very competitive statewide as was the literary teams of the school. Through the years of 1947-1970 Talbot County High School graduates excelled in many fields. Many graduates furthered their education in other institutions of higher learning. Out of these came school administrators, doctors, lawyers, judges, teachers, artists, school and college teachers, certified public accountants, public officials and other business and professional occupations. During the years between 1948-1970 many distinguished individuals were invited and spoke at the graduation exercises. Among these were President Jimmy Carter, Congressman Howard "Bo" Callaway, Congressman Jack Brinkley, College President Dr. George P. Donaldson and Judge Robert H. Jordan. Federal Court orders issued in the late 1960's forced the closing of Talbot County High School at the close of the 1969-1970 school year. In the 1970-71 school year the Talbot County High School and the Ruth Carter were merged and became Central High School.
