Evan was inducted as a Sergeant into the 39th Company, 10th Training Battalion, 157 Depot Brigade, US Army on April 26, 1918 in Talbotton, Ga. He was honorably discharged from the service of the United States on 18 December 1918, by reason of demobilization. He died on August 28, 1942 and was originally buried at the Junction City cemetery. His grave was later moved to be buried beside his wife, Minnie Reid Blythe,at the Ellaville City cemetery in Ellaville, Ga.
