Mr. George Cook and children were the guests of Mrs. King Sunday. Mr. T.A. Funderburk and two little daughters visited Mr. C.C. Ginn and family Sunday. (The rest of the Box Spring's items was accidentally lost - Printer) The Talbotton New Era Thursday, June 11, 1903 Page Three THE COUNTY BOX SPRINGS Fire broke out in the dry house of the Box Springs Manufacturing Co. Thursday night last at about 8 o'clock and for some time it looked as if the (word cut off - may be whole) of Box Springs would be burned but owing to the rain and the help of those present the fire was soon under control and the damages were small. The fire was caused by carelessness of the night watchman. Mrs. Moore and son, of Juniper, were the guest of Mr. Mac Moore on Sunday. Mrs. T.P. McLendon returned home after a pleasant visit to relatives and friends in Columbus and other cities. Little Miss Ruth Stripling is visiting her grandmother this week. We are expecting wedding bells again soon in Box Springs. The Talbotton New Era Thursday, June 18, 1903 Page Three THE COUNTY Box Springs Mr. Tom Adams house was burned Sunday evening between 3 and 4 o'clock. Mr. Adams and his young wife were not at home at the time. Everything was burned up, including plow gear, buggy harness, and all household furniture. Nothing saved. Origin of fire unknown. They will live in the house with his father, Uncle Joe Adams, until the crops are laid by when he will build a new home. Misses Mattie Hinton and Loula Harbuck of Juniper visited Mr. G.O. McClung and family Sunday. Little Miss Patterson of Columbus, is the guest of her aunt, Mrs. F.P. McLendon this week. Miss Hattie Simpson of Talbotton is visiting the Misses King this week. Misses Mary Wall and Ida Belle Jenkins are the guests of Mrs. T.A. Funderburk at this writing. Mr. T. A. Funderburk and two little daughters visited his sister in Girard, Ala., Saturday and Sunday. Miss Inez McClendon visited homefolks Sunday. Miss Sadie Gorham was the guest of Mrs. T.L. Jenkins Sunday. Also, Mrs. A.A. Pope and Mrs. Steve McLendon are Mrs. Jenkins' guest at this writing. Mr. O.W. Taff of Upatoi, was in Box Springs Monday, the guest of Mr. Funderburk and family. Mr. and Mrs. William Hart have come back to make their home in Box Springs again. We welcome them back with us. Messrs. Howard and Henry Cart-- of Meigs, Ga., were the guests of Mr. Funderburk and family Tuesday. They are agents for enlarging pictures and have received many orders here among whom were Messrs J.W. King, F.P. McLendon, G.O. McClung, G. Gorham, Mrs. Gorham and others. Wood Browning is erecting a beautiful residence and he and his fair bride will be at home to their many friends about the middle of December. Miss Blanche King has returned home from an extended visit to Waverly Hall. Miss Willie Bickley, one of Waverly Hall's fairest young ladies, is visiting her sister, Mrs. F.P. McLendon. Miss Inez McLendon was the charming guest of Mrs. S.H. Jenkins at Upatoi last week. Miss Katie Bazemore of Geneva is visiting the Misses Covington this week. Mrs. Eva McElvey and her charming little daughter, Miss Elizabeth, of Columbus, are visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. A.A. Pope. Mr. J.W. King is one the sick list this week. Miss Julia Kent Brown of Macon attended the Kent-Ginn wedding of the 18th. Mr. Charlie Ginn of Macon is visiting at Box Springs and Columbus this week. Rev. Bazemore preached his last sermon for this year at Box Springs Sunday. Best wishes go with him. He is very much liked and the people hope they will be so fortunate as to have him back another year. Miss Mamie Hickey our efficient school mistress made a hurried trip to Columbus Saturday. Miss Annie Taff of Muscogee is visiting her sister Mrs. T.A. Funderburk this week. Mrs. Funderburk and children visited her mother in Muscogee Saturday. Mr. A.A. Pope and family were the guests of Mr. T.L. Jenkins and family Sunday. Mrs. McClung, Mrs. Moore, Mrs. J.W. Jenkins were the guest of Mrs. Blythe Monday p.m. The Talbotton New Era Thursday, April 7, 1904 Page Three Box Springs Mr. Brooks of Cusseta opened school Monday at what is known as the May place just across the creek from Box Springs in Chattahoochee County. He is boarding with Mr. J.W. King. Miss Mamie Hickey, our efficient teacher is progressing nicely with her school. She has 37 pupils enrolled and others to come in. The older pupils have organized a society, called the reading club to be held every Friday afternoon. They will study different subjects at each meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Hirum McClung visited Mr. Lem Adams and family near Talbotton Saturday and Sunday. Mrs. J.W. King and A.R. Parker were the guests of Mrs. Covington Friday. The weather continues cold but we hope the peach crop will escape unhurt. Mrs. Lem Adams and Mrs. Bob Adams near Talbotton visited relatives here Saturday and Sunday. Mr. McBryde of Geneva was in our town Tuesday. Mr. T. A. Funderburk and family visited Mr. Bill Covington and family Sunday. McLendon were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles McLendon Sunday. Mr. Willie Funderburk visited relatives and friends at Juniper Sunday. Misses Mattie Kate King and Etta Newberry were the guests of Miss Nellie McLendon Saturday and Sunday. Mrs. L.H. Blythe and Mrs. Charlie Herring have bought out Capt. Fort and gone into the mercantile business. We congratulate them upon their new enterprise. Mr. Fulton of Tennessee is visiting Mr. McMoore and family this week. Miss Smithy McLendon who has been attending LeVert College returned home at the close of school. Miss Frances Lowe has returned to her home here who has also been attending school at LeVert. Miss Wynn of Columbus visited her sister Mrs. Alexander Saturday and Sunday. Mr. William Greer, an aged citizen of Muscogee County died at his home a few miles south of Upatoi last Wednesday and was buried Thursday. He was eighty-four years old. He leaves two sons and three daughters besides a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. The Talbotton New Era Thursday, June 9, 1904 Page Three Box Springs Miss Etta Newberry, an accomplished young lady who has been in Box Springs for quite a while studying telegraphy under her brother, left for her home in Alabama Saturday. Mr. J. Wood Browning has been on the sick list for several days but is better and able to attend to his business at this writing. The many friends of Mrs. J.W. King will be glad to know she is improving after a few days of serious illness. However she is quite sick yet but we wish for her a speedy recovery. Mr. T.L. Jenkins and family visited relatives Sunday. Mr. William Taft and family of near Columbus visited Mrs. T.H. Funderburk and family Sunday. Mrs. Moore of Juniper was the guest of her son, Mr. Mack Moore Saturday. Mr. John Browning of Juniper visited his son, Mr. J.W. Browning Saturday and Sunday. Lowe. Miss Chris B. Wynn of Marianna, Fla. is here on a visit to her sister Mrs. C. Alexander. Mr. W.E. Covington and wife accompanied by his sister Mrs. S.C. Jenkins of Columbus is visiting relatives at Preston this week. Mr. J. Wood Browning is wearing a broad smile now days over the fact that there is a new boarder at his home, a baby boy. Mr. M.S. Newberry went over to Arlington Saturday night returning Monday morning. Miss Mary Will King is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Hewel at Shack, Ga. Mrs. W.J. Weaver and Mrs. J.W. Lowe of Columbus are visiting Mrs. J.W. King this week. Miss Annie Lou Jackson, a very charming young lady of Midland, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. Stripling. The Sunday school at this place is still flourishing under the management of Mr. Funderburk. Miss Jennie Gibson is visiting Mrs. George Lowe. Mr. Homer Funderburk was sick several days last week. Miss Nellie McLendon is visiting in Talbotton. Mr. R.L. McBryde of Geneva visited friends here Sunday. A musical at Edgar Lee's was the social function of the week. An ice cream supper at the home of Mr. Allen Pope last Friday night was a decided success for the Ladies Aid Society. Miss Nellie Morris of Geneva is assisting the depot agent here. The Talbotton New Era Thursday, March 29, 1906 Page Six Box Springs The recent cold spell has proved very injurious to the fruit crop in this section. Mr. Ed Griffin of Box Springs has moved to Camilla, Ga., to engage in the sawmill business. Mr. Austin, the Surveyor of Chattahoochee County, spent last Thursday night with Mr. C.C. Ginn. He is surveying some land for Mr. Ginn and Mr. McCallister. Mr. and Mrs. O.L. McGinty were guests of Mr. T.A. Funderburk and family Sunday. Mr. Mark Fielder and wife were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Blythe Sunday. Mrs. F.P. McLendon and children were the guests of Mr. W.H. Stripling and family Sunday. Mr. Jim Riley and wife also Mrs. C.H. Herring and children were the guests of Mrs. James Riley recently. Mr. Homer Funderburk visited at Paschal Sunday. Little Miss Lila May Moore is visiting her grandmother, Mrs. Moore of Juniper. The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Marlin Posey of Juniper, will be glad to know that the latter is convalescing after a severe stroke of paralysis. Quite a number of Box Springs people attended an all day singing at Browns Spring Chapel yesterday. Misses Mattie E. and Annie Funderburk were the guests of Misses Eva and Jimmie Lee McFarland Sunday. Mr. Mac Moore and family visited relatives over at Juniper Sunday. Miss Smithy McLendon returned home from Florida and other points of interest yesterday. Everybody invited to attend these meetings. Mrs. McLendon is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. W.A. Blythe. Mr. Tom McClung and wife of Columbus are the guests of relatives here this week. Mr. Charlie Green and sister, Miss Bessie, were the guests of relatives here Sunday. Little George Funderburk son of Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Funderburk of Columbus was buried here at Box Springs cemetery July 14th. We extend to these grief stricken parents our deepest sympathy. Wood Browning and W.A. Walker made a business trip to Atlanta this week. Mrs. Lem Adams and children are the guests of her parents here this week. Mr. Ed Adams of Macon visited relatives here recently. Mrs. Eugene Browning and daughter Miss Forest returned to their home near Buena Vista last Sunday, after a pleasant visit to relatives in Box Springs. Misses Mattie E. and Annie Funderburk are visiting relatives in Columbus this week. Miss Susie May Fielder and Miss Clyde Blythe were the guests of Miss Mattie E. Funderburk recently. Mr. and Mrs. Will Blythe were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles McLendon Sunday. Mr. T.A. Funderburk attended the general meeting in Waverly Hall last Friday, also visited his son near Cataula last week.
