Meets The Woodland P.T.A. met in the school auditorium, October 6th, with the president, Mrs. Bert Cantrell presiding. The Association voted to buy charts and flash cards for Miss Martin’s room; to buy construction paper for the grammar grades; furnish supplies for the First Aid cabinet; build a bookcase and to sponsor a dental clinic. The membership chairman, Mrs. W.J. Braddy announced that 29 people had joined the P.T.A. and plans were made to solicit others. The Association was privileged to hear Dr. Quillian, President of LaGrange College, who spoke to the teachers of the county at 2:30 o’clock. Delicious refreshments were served to the teachers and P.T.A. members by Miss Martin, Mesdames W.J. Braddy, J.F. Woodall, B.H. Adams, B.M. Cantrell, J.C. Garrett, Misses Sara Smith and Miriam O’Neal. Lucas Junction City Misses Florence and Rosalyn Edwards spent the weekend with their brother Clarence Edwards in Atlanta and attended the Southeastern Fair. Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Moore, Mrs. J.L. Morgan and Mrs. W.A. Blythe spent Monday in Atlanta. Mr. and Mrs. J.C. McMillen of Beverly Hills, Calif. were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Cox. Mrs. McMillen is remembered as Miss Sue Hart. Mrs. Ed Layfield Dies in Columbus Mrs. Ed Layfield (Susie Clyde Blythe Layfield) died suddenly at her home in Columbus early Tuesday morning, Oct. 10. She was a sister of Messrs. W.A. and E.A. Blythe, resided here several years before going to Columbus to make her home. Mrs. Layfield was a niece of the late Mrs. Ella Fielder and attended her funeral here a few weeks ago. Surviving Mrs. Layfield are her husband and several children. Prom Party Miss Dorothy Funderburk was hostess at a delightful prom party at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Funderburk Friday evening. The young guests enjoyed proms on the porch and lawn. Delicious sandwiches and punch were served. The guests included: Misses Florence Pierce, Frances Couch, Ruth Harris, Mary Cook, Martha Olive, Opal Greathouse, Gloria Cartledge, Jane Spivey, Emily Teal, Jean Ingram, Emily McGehee, Jewell Morgan and Wynelle Blythe; Messrs. Richard Andrews, O.W. Greene, Charles Watkins, LeRoy Kelley, Winston Ligon, George Stallings, Hardy Lee Couch, John Allen, L.R. Miner, Hardy Mahone, Eddie Tyler, Richard Taylor, Jack Stinson and Charles Carson. Governor Names Talbot County Polio Committee Governor E.D. Rivers, Chairman of the Georgia State Chapter, The National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, Inc., this week named the personnel of the Talbot County Committee. They are J.M. Shipp, Chairman; Thomas H. Mahone, Ordinary; Miss Grace Smith, County Welfare Director; J.C. Watts, Superintendent; Dr. W.P. Leonard, County Health Officer.
