Matthews Holds Reunion A Talbot County family which was scattered halfway around the world only a short time ago, was reunited again last week in Woodland. It was a war-time reunion of the family of the late Thomas Finley Matthews and every one of the eight members of the family, five Matthews sons and three Matthews daughters was present, along with wives and husbands, grandchildren and great grandchildren making a total of twenty-four in all. They visited together for several days and attended an all-day reunion, dinner and supper at the Community Club in Woodland on Thursday, June 24. It was the first time in many years that the family circle was complete and unbroken. Special places of honor were given two members of the family who are high ranking U.S. Army officers active in the services of the nation, Major A. Henry Matthews and Captain Allan L. Matthews. Major Ansel Henry Matthews has been in Panama on the General’s staff, search-light branch, of the Coast Artillery defending the Canal Zone. Back in the States for advanced training and for a brief furlough, he came to Talbot County with his wife, the former Evelyn Sixt. Their home in peace time is in New York City. Captain Allan Little Matthews joined the family fresh from a 12,000 mile journey from the battle fronts in Australia and New Guinea. He has been in the Southwest Pacific area more than a year serving with the communications branch on the Coast Artillery and helping fight off Jap air raids. Captain Matthews’ own home is in Augusta, and he brought with him to Woodland, his wife, formerly Marguerite Connor Wetcoat, his son, Allan L. Jr., (Sonny) and his daughter, Marguerite Wightman (Peggy). A third Matthews brother, Thomas Finley Matthews II, came from his home in Birmingham to join the group. With him were his wife, the former Bernice Reid, and their son, Thomas Finley, III, who, like his father, is a name-sake of the original head of the family. A sister, Sarah Frances Matthews Copeland, is the fourth member of (the rest of the article is cut off the page.)
