Barnes, near Paschal was destroyed by fire Wednesday about noon. It is supposed that the flames started from a defective stove flue while dinner was being prepared as it was in that part of the house the fire was first discovered. Neighbors gathered quickly and while it was impossible to save the building, they did excellent work in saving practically everything in the house except the piano. This was one of the oldest and best homes in the community. An insurance policy had been carried on the property for a half century but which had unintentionally been allowed to expire a short time prior to the fire. Mrs. Barnes and her interesting family have scores of friends in this county who deeply deplore their misfortune. Sick Man Barely Escapes From Fire Talbotton, Nov. 10 – Given a sleeping potion during an illness, W.H. Brannon, of this city, awoke this morning about 4 o’clock with smoke and flames almost entirely filling the room and barely escaped. The grate had fallen out and the blaze it started totally destroyed the $15,000 residence, among the finest at this place, and all its contents. The loss is partially covered by insurance.
