Shooting At Junction City

Two Men Attacked – Marshal Hesters the Victim – Postmaster Martin Under Arrest –
Excitement Reigned in Neighbor Town Thursday

Junction City was thrown into excitement Thursday morning over a shooting
affair, in which Marshal Will Hesters suffered severe wounds.

L.J. Downs went to the home of Postmaster Homer Martin to collect rent.  During
the interview, Mr. Martin became resentful and reached for a gun.  Mrs. Martin
tried to avert a tragedy and Mr. Downs left with Martin firing at him.

Later, Marshal Hesters sought Martin at the post office and was met with a
volley.  The right thumb was shot off, left wrist injured and a load of shot
entered the left arm.  Hesters secured the gun before he succumbed.

Martin was arrested and is lodged in the county jail.  He has a family.

Mr. Hesters is confined at home under the care of physicians.  He has a wife and
three small children.  This is the second time the marshal has been shot in an
effort to enforce the law and do his duty. – Talbotton New Era

All the parties to the unfortunate affair are well known here.  It is the desire
of their many friends that the matter will soon be amicably settled.
