Carter’s Rites to Be Today TALBOTTON, Ga., Oct. 15,1946- Dr. Grady Lumsden Carter, 55, beloved Talbot county physician, died at his home here Tuesday. He had been ill for two years. Funeral services will be held at his home here at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Talbotton Cemetery. Dr. Carter, during his career as a physician in his native Talbot County, typified the ideals of the old- fashioned country doctor. He often rejected flattering offers to practice his profession in larger communities. His practice carried him to all parts of the county, and hundreds owe their lives to his surgical ability. Many times he had operated upon patients by lamp or flashlight in isolated farm houses. He administered to all without thought of self, weather or distance. Dr. Carter was born in Talbot County Nov. 28,1890, the son of the late John Allen and Della Lumsden Carter. His parents on both sided belonged to prominent pioneer families of the county. After finishing grammar school here, Dr. Carter attended R.E. Lee Institute at Thomaston. Later he graduated from the Atlanta Medical College, now the Emory University School of Medicine. Shortly after he received his medical degree, he began his practice in Talbotton in 1913. He continued his work as a surgeon and physician until his health forced him to retire several years ago. Dr. Carter was married Oct. 11,1913, to Ruth Elizabeth Arnold, who survives him. Mrs. Carter, a sister of Robert M Arnold, Columbus attorney, is at present, superintendent of schools in this county. Dr. Carter was a member of the Methodist Church. Beside his widow, he is survived by two sons, Hugh P. Carter, Birmingham, and Norman K Carter, Talbotton; two grandchildren , Norman K. Carter Jr., Talbotton, and Lynne Carter of Birmingham; two nieces, Julia Carter , Columbus, and Mrs. W.A. Cox, Blakely, and three nephews, Norman King, Cuthbert; Charles P. King, Americus, and E. Worrill Carter, Thomaston. ======================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be freely used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
