Robert Harris Gilson, Sr.
July 25, 1925 - Sept. 11, 2001


Manchester:  Robert Harris Gilson, Sr., 78 of Manchester,
died Sept. 11 at Georgia Baptist Meriwether Hospital in
Warm Springs.  Funeral services were held Sept. 13 at
Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home in Manchester with Rev.
T. P. Hadley officiating.  Burial followed in Meriwether
Memory Gardens.


Mr. Gilson was born July 25, 1925 in Talbot County, the
son of the late William Mangrum Gilson and the late Mary
Harris Gilson.  A U. S. Army veteran of WWII serving in
Co. C 865th Engineering Aviation Battalion, he was the
retired owner of G&K Automotive.  Mr. Gilson was a
Baptist, deacon and former councilman in Talbotton.


Survivors include his wife Helen Tomlin Gilson of
Manchester; sons and daughters-in-law Dana Gilson of
Manchester, Bobby and Sherry Gilson of Pine Mountain and
John and Amy Gilson, also of Manchester; two brothers,
Ralph Gilson of Woodbury and Ben Gilson of Talbotton; two
sisters, Maidie Ligon of Talbotton and Mary Parten of
Newnan; two grandsons, Thomas Christopher (Tom) Gilson
and Robert Benjamin (Ben) Gilson
