Oh, how shocked I was when I learned that the Angel of Peace had visited the house of Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Holmes and plucked their beautiful tender, spotless lily, and bore it away on its snowy pinions and transplanted it in the Garden of Paradise, where the angelic host will inhale its sweet odor, and it will bloom throughout eternity. Like a beautiful sunbeam God lent her to them for a short while to gladden and chase away the gloom, then withdrew her to set their affections on things above. Little Caroline was only sick a few days with jaundice when “A still voice” whispered “Come up higher.” She was two years old and being the only child was the joy and pride of the home. Darling little Carolyn, we sadly miss thy chubby little form, sweet prattle and bright happy smile, but pray to be resigned to the will of the Allwise Lord, our Father who never makes any mistakes, but “Doeth all things well” for our good and His eternal glory. But oh, “His ways are past finding out.” Now may the blessing of Jehovah rest upon each one, and that “Peace that passeth all understanding be with you” is the sincere prayer of Your devoted cousin, Mattie S.
