Talbot COUNTY GA Miss Ruby Helen Hale File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Angela Covington http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/talbot/obits/hale.txt Newspaper Clipping from May 7,1959 Columbus Enquirer Two more mishaps were added Wednesday to the mounting number of water-connected accidents when a Talbot County nurse was drowned near Woodland, Ga., and a Columbus woman was injured Saturday by the propeller of a runaway outboard motor boat. The death of Miss Ruby Helen Hale, 36, Talbot County health nurse, brought the total of water deaths to four within the past four days in the Chattahoochee. In the Talbotton accident, Miss Hale, who lived with Mr. And Mrs. Joe Hale of Talbotton, failed to return home following a fishing trip Tuesday. Her car was located near the pond about 9 Tuesday night. The lake was dragged until 2:30 a.m. without success. Later a drag line was obtained from Manchester and the body was discovered shortly before 6 a.m. Miss Hale, a former member of the Army Nurse Corps, was a non-swimmer. Prior to joining the Talbot County Health Department, she was employed as a nurse by Dr. Kirkland in Manchester. A native of Talbot County, survivors include her parents, Mr. And Mrs. G.C. Hale, Sr. of Woodland; five brothers, Joe, Hardy, Hugh, Sidney and G.C., Jr. all of Woodbury; two sisters, Mrs. Odell Eubanks, Valdosta, and Mrs. Dallas Lucas of Newnan. Funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Valley Grove Baptist Church, Woodland, with the Rev. Wheeler Kidd, pastor, conducting the service, assisted by the Rev. Howard McCrary, Woodland Baptist pastor.
