Maxwell Dead Pete Maxwell is dead. The news spread like electric shock over the county. Pete Maxwell was loved by all who knew him, and all his friends were pained to learn of his death. He had been sick for some time, and while his death was not wholly unexpected it was a shock none the less. Mr. Maxwell was a member of the Baptist church and a K.of P. He was buried by the K. of P. Lodge. Rev. Graham Forrester preached the funeral sermon. Mr. Maxwell leaves a wife and one child, Miss Willie Lewis Maxwell and several brothers and sisters. Maxwell Resolution of respect for our departed ones – Mrs. Cora Payne, Miss Minnie Lumpkin, Mr. Peter Maxwell. We, the Mt. Zion Baptist church, have received a great loss in the death of these three beloved members. It seems as if the hand of God was heavy upon us, to take so many of our members so near together. In the death of these, our sisters and brother, we feel that we have sustained great loss, and a vacancy that cannot be filled. We will always miss them in every walk of life, and especially will we miss them in our church and her works. Each of these members filled places peculiar to themselves. Resolved, That in the death of these, Mt. Zion has lost what she cannot regain. But our loss, we trust, is their gain. As we have faith in Christ, we have faith in their rest with Christ. Resolved, That those resolutions be spread on the minutes and published in The Talbotton New Era and a copy be sent to each of the bereaved families. R. Gilbert R.A. Maxwell Committee The Talbotton New Era Thursday, March 30, 1911 Page Two In Memory of Peter F. Maxwell Peter F. Maxwell was born in Talbot county, Ga., March 20th, 1859, near Centerville and died near the place of his birth, February 14th, 1911, aged 52 years. “Pete” Maxwell, as he was familiarly known, was a man who was recognized by reason of the loftiness of his character, and upright dealings with his fellowmen. He scarcely had a superior. He was a man whom everyone honored and respected. He was just and liberal, broadminded and charitable, always ready to respond to every call of sickness and distress. The writer has known him from his childhood days. We spent our school days together and on thru the various walks of life we have been the closest of friends and in all of these relations he proved himself the true man that he was. I have visited him in his home and his cordial welcome always made one feel easy and comfortable. As a husband and father, he was kind and affectionate; and it may be truly said of him: “His song was only living aloud, His life: a working with his hands.” A Friend File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/talbot/obits/m/maxwell12341ob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 4.2 Kb
