The Marion County Patriot, No. 2 January 10, 1902 Page Three Gone to His Reward Between the hours of 7 and 8 Monday morning Ed McNeil, manger of Moore’s telephone exchange in Talbotton, killed himself. It was done by taking 8 ˝ grains of morphine, and after becoming unconscious from the effects of said drug which he bought just before committing the rash deed, cut his throat twice with a razor. People who saw him and talked to him just before 7 o’clock say they never saw him in a better humor, and no cause is left to his mother and two sisters stating why he should take his life with his own hands. The coroner of Talbot County held an inquest Monday evening at about 3:30 o’clock, immediately after the finding of the body, which was in a back room in the Opera house building. The verdict of the jury was that the deceased came to his death by taking morphine with suicidal intent. He leaves a mother and two sisters to mourn his death. Peace to his ashes.
