Smith, where she was boarding, Mrs. S. Ather, aged about 85, breathed her last. She had been paralyzed and wasn’t expected to live long. The end came quietly and her soul went to its God whither it had been striving to go many years. Mrs. Ather was a devout member of the Episcopal Church and her greatest delight was to attend upon the services of her church. As long as she was able to get about she could always be counted on to be present at her church services. Mrs. Ather was a Miss Curley, sister of the late Capt. B. Curley, of Talbotton. After her marriage to Mr. Ather she lived in Macon many years. She had been a widow for about forty years. In her stronger days she taught school and was a successful teacher. She never had any children and her friends were numerous and were like children or sisters to her in striving to make the declining days pleasant. She was gently laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery Monday afternoon and loving hands will delight to put flowers on the grave in memory of the pure Christian life of the one who occupied it. Note: In the December 24, 1903 issue of the New Era, there is an obituary for Susanna Ather written by the U.D.C. It doesn’t contain any dates that would be helpful in genealogy research.
