Death of Fannie Holmes Couch

On last Friday afternoon Fannie Holmes Couch, the bright sixteen year old 
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Couch, died at the home of her parents near 
Talbotton.  She has been ill only a short while and her death was very 
unexpected.  It came as quite a shock to her relatives and friends.

On Friday morning when Mr. Couch was preparing to leave home and come to 
Talbotton, she complained of feeling badly, but none of family thought she was 
seriously ill.  Soon after reaching town, Mr. Couch received a telephone 
message that she was very sick, and Dr. Douglass and Dr. Leonard went out to 
see her immediately.  Upon reaching the bedside of the patient, they found her 
to be suffering from pneumonia.  In spite of all that could be done by medical 
skill and the tender hands of a loving mother, she continued to sink rapidly, 
and all realized that the end was near at hand.  Just as the shades of evening 
began to gather, life passed from her body, and her soul winged its flight to a 
better world.

The funeral service was held from the home on Saturday afternoon and were 
conducted by Rev. Bascom Sentell of the Methodist church.  The remains were 
interred in Oak Hill Cemetery in Talbotton.  The funeral was largely attended 
by the friends and the relatives of the family.

Note: In the February 18, 1904 issue of the New Era, there is a memorial 
article written in memory of Fannie Couch on page 2.  The only date given in 
the article is her date of death, February 4, 1904.
