Philpot Dr. William H. Philpot died in Columbia, South Carolina, last Friday and was buried in Talbotton Saturday afternoon, the remains having been brought here on the early train Saturday. He has been in Columbia for several weeks on a visit to his son, Dr. Kyle Philpot, and while there was taken sick. New was received in Talbotton some days ago that his condition was critical and that he could not recover. Dr. Philpot was one of the best-known physicians in Georgia. He served as a surgeon in both the Civil and Mexican wars and was for years the surgeon of the Central Railroad. He practiced medicine in Talbotton for many years but gave up the practice about twelve years ago. Dr. Philpot’s presence at the Confederate Reunions in the future will be greatly missed. He always attended the reunions and was a conspicuous figure in the proceedings. He will be greatly missed on these occasions by his old friends and comrades. The funeral took place from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Wind, Saturday afternoon and was largely attended. The services were conducted by Rev. Bascom Sentell.
