Kendrick as born in Talbot County, Ga., April 9th, 1831; died at his home in Talbot Valley, after an illness of three weeks, July 6th, 1905*. He was married to Mary A. Brooks, of Mecklinburg County, Va., Oct. 6th, 1859. In 1854 he was converted and united with Concord Baptist Church, at which time and place he was baptized by Rev. Bartley. In 1860 he moved his letter to Valley Grove Baptist Church where he remained a consistent and devoted member till his death. He loved the house of God and reverenced it. Although his church was some distance away, he was a regular attendant, unless providentially hindered; he always arranged to attend the Saturday services, for it was there that he loved to meet, and commune with his pastor and brethren on things pertaining to higher life. As a Christian, he embodied in his life those sweet graces, gentleness, cheerfulness and humility. He was a companion to his loved ones – his home life was beautiful, because he had learned of God, to be a man. He was an everyday Christian; blessed life, more blessed in death; for he is now with his Savior whom he served for fifty-one years, leaving to loved ones and friends an example worthy of emulation. He was a kind, affectionate father, and devoted husband. His companion, with whom he lived happily for forty-six years, and five children (four daughters and one son) survive him; also one sister and one brother. The funeral services were conducted at Valley Grove Church, by Rev. J.V. Allen, who had been his pastor for a number of years. *Note - the date of death in this article is one day earlier than the date given in the article dated July 13, 1905.
