Steed The friends of Mr. Robert E. Steed were grieved at the sad news of his sudden death, which occurred in Macon Tuesday morning, while he was attending to his office duties in the S.S. Dunlap Hardware store. Mr. Steed was born in Talbot County in 1846. He joined the army in 1862 and served his country nobly and bravely throughout the Civil War. On his return, he taught two years at Lumpkin and Buena Vista and later took a business course at Eastman College, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. For some years he was identified with the firm of Lawton and Willingham. Some months ago he was stricken with paralysis and sought the healing waters of Hot Springs, but his health was never fully restored. He was the brother of our esteemed citizen, Mr. V.A. Steed. The funeral took place Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock from the residence, 115 Cleveland Avenue. Rev. James Smith of the Vineville Methodist Church officiating. Interment in Rose Hill.
