W.H. Searcy The passing of the Hon. Wm. H. Searcy removes from Talbot County one of her oldest inhabitants and most distinguished citizens. Mr. Searcy had been quite feeble for some time. His courtly presence had been missed from the scenes of Talbotton for many months, but it was a pleasure to his friends to know that he still lived, the potent, powerful influence of his strong personality far reaching. Death came Tuesday afternoon at 5 o’clock in the home where he dwelt so many years, surrounded by his children and several grandchildren. Mr. Searcy was as gentle as a woman; dignified as a judge, firm in his adherence to duty and unswerving in his allegiance to the best interest of his Church and State. He was a true Christian and lived the life of the upright man in his daily walk. His home was the center of beautiful Southern hospitality. He was twice married. He is survived by the following children: Mr. D.B. Searcy, Prof. W.E. Searcy, of Thomas County, Mrs. Walter Maxwell, Mrs. Mattie Searcy Leonard, of Columbus, also a goodly number of grandchildren. A noble man has gone. Men rise up and call him blessed. – Talbotton New Era This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.7 Kb
