Watts, which sad event occurred at her residence in Butler at 6 o’clock Wednesday evening Jan. the 8th, after a painful illness for about one month. She was the wife of Rev. W.M. Watts and eldest daughter of Wilson and Cyrene Hogan. Mrs. Watts was born in Talbot County, Ga., June 27, 1831, where she was reared and married to Rev. W.M. Watts July 16th 1848, and to them were born four affectionate children. Soon after her marriage she was converted and joined the Methodist church and began a consistent Christian life. She never doubted her conversion, but as wife, mother and Christian evinced the grace of that conversion by a consistent and useful life. She suffered greatly for a month but died in peace. During the past year Mr. and Mrs. Watts served Crowell’s circuit with great acceptability and did a faithful and earnest work, and by their Christian character gained many friends in all parts of the county. Mrs. Watts, during her last illness, received all the attention that kind friends and physicians could give, but despite their earnest endeavors she quietly breathed her last. The funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church and concluded at the cemetery by Rev. H.C. Bruton in an impressive manner. A large number of sorrowing friends accompanied the remains to the grave. The bereaved loved ones have the sympathy of our entire community in their sad affliction. The Butler Herald Tuesday, January 14, 1890 Page Two Personal and Otherwise Rev. W.M. Watts left by private conveyance on Monday for his new appointment at Boston, Ga., having been detained here for several weeks on account of the sickness of his wife. The sympathy and best wishes of many friends go with him to his new field of labor.
