A Sad Accident

A sad and distressing accident took place near Talbotton last Tuesday, in which 
Mr. Hugh Wilkerson was shot and fatally wounded by Mr. Will Thornton.  The two 
young men were out in the fields bird hunting and late in the afternoon the gun 
carried by Mr. Thornton was accidentally discharged, the entire load of bird 
shot striking Mr. Wilkerson centrally in the face putting out both eyes.  
Physicians attending Mr. Wilkerson in the field where he was shot and 
afterwards carried him to his home, but we have been unable to learn the 
results of the wound.  Such accidents should be a warning to all young men who 
handle firearms.
