We never knew Mr. Parker personally. He was the son of Hon. J.T. Parker whom we know and like very much. He leaves a wife and several children and also a brother Clifford Parker. He had been sick for only a short while, with the dreadful disease pneumonia when he received the call, “it is enough.” To the sorrowing friends we extend our sympathies. The Talbotton New Era Thursday, March 17, 1910 Page One A Sad Death Mr. Riley Parker died at his river home last Thursday night of a violent type of pneumonia. All that loving friends and medical skill could do, did not stay deaths dim reaper. To express sorrow, nothing could have happened to produce such a deep gloom in his home and over our entire community and his numerous friends. Death came almost without warning striking down the main stay of home in the prime of life in which so many were looking to and wholly dependent. It was sad to be there, in the last moment when the fatal hour came, unexpectedly to the family witnessing a pathetic scene; his untiring and devoted wife, and four little children seeing the last spark of life go out their last hope of happiness and dependence. With human frailties he possessed noble traits worthy of emulation his devotion to friends; always keeping open doors free and full of genuine old hospitality in which was a pleasant retreat to many. It seemed more than his devoted father and mother could bear; in him was their stay counselor relied and wholly depended. It can be truly said there never was a more devoted husband and father happily and freely contributing that which added to their comfort and happiness. His remains were interred in the family lot in Thomaston in the presence of a large concourse of neighbors and friends. The last sad rites were conducted by Rev. England of Thomaston and Rev. Geo. C. Ingram of Talbotton. The community and the whole people extended their deep heartfelt sympathy to his noble wife and four little children and the family in his home of deep sorrow and may God deal gently and protect and guide them lovingly to the end.
