Wells of this place. The Talbotton New Era Thursday, January 5, 1911 Page Seven Frederick John Wells Many years ago Dr. Elijah Wells came to Talbotton from Putnam County, Georgia. With him came his wife, Harriett and their son, Hamilton N. Wells. Dr. Elijah Wells had a good practice, understood business and prospered. Hamilton N. Wells in the course of time studied medicine, was sent to the University of New York, graduated there and locating here was a well known and greatly beloved physician to the time of his death near twenty-nine years ago. Hamilton N. Wells never married. Frederick John Wells, son of Dr. Elijah Wells and brother of Hamilton H. Wells, was born in Talbotton on January 22, 1839. He also graduated from the University of New York, located in Talbotton and practiced medicine. In August 1864 Dr Frederick J. Wells married Miss Sarah Jones and to the time of his death she was his good and faithful wife. For some years immediately preceding his death Dr. Frederick Wells was in delicate health and did not engage in general practice of medicine, but formerly he was in active practice and he won not only the esteem but also the friendship of those to whom he rendered professional service. He was in the Confederate army and at the time of the close of the war between the states he was at Andersonville prison as a physician and surgeon. His home life was pleasant and great peace ruled supreme in his family circle. He is survived by his wife and his adopted daughter, Miss Genie Wells. He died December 22, 1910 – the last of his race. His father, his brother and him were all physicians and the name “Doctor Wells” has been familiar here since earliest days of the county.
