Retired Apr. 26, 1862. He was the son of Lewis D. Wimberly and Matilda Garrett Centerville, Talbot born February 8, 1826 and died January 8, 1896. He married Elizabeth Tabitha Breedlove on March 1, 1849 in Talbot. There were at least two children, Julia Wimberly and James Kimbrough. Burial: Centerville Cemetery Talbot County Wimberly. Below from: A Rockaway in Talbot Vol. II When Captain Barnard Curley of Talbot County organized a company of men, the Southern Rifles, on April 26, 1861, William Crawford Wimberly enlisted and was elected 1st Lieutenant. He retired April 16, 1862, at the expiration of their enlistment of twelve months. Wimberly was later in the Georgia Militia. At Griswoldville, Georgia, he was wounded in action on November 16, 1864. In his obituary appearing in the Talbotton New Era for February 4,1896, it tells how he returned home to his plantation near Centreville and "lived a quiet, peaceful life.." His children are shown as Sarah Eliza, Elizabeth Augusta, Lewis Leonard, James F., Anna Julia, William C., Jr., Nellie, Laura Emma, Lizzie Kate and Jack Kimbrough Wimberly.
