John was born September 11, 1832 in Wilkes County, GA, the oldest of thirteen children born to George and Caroline Bates Boswell. He died December 26, 1911 in Columbus, Muskogee County, GA. On October 23, 1851, John married Lucinda Elizabeth Lucas, daughter of Isaac and Martha Mariah Pollard Lucas. Shortly after the beginning of the Civil War, John enlisted in the Talbot Grenadiers, Company I, Forty-sixth Regiment on September 4, 1862.. He was wounded in the left leg at the Battle of Honey Hill, SC on November 30, 1864 and was discharged at the close of the war from a hospital in Augusta, Georgia. Lucinda Elizabeth Lucas was born February 3, 1833 in Columbia County, GA and died in Columbus, Muskogee County February 28, 1910. Lucinda was the second great granddaughter of Elder Daniel Marshall, the founder of the first Baptist church in the state of Georgia at Kiokee Creek in what is now Columbia County, GA in 1772.
