 Richard Wyatt OATES was born 26 Mar 1762 in Wayne County North Carolina to 
James OATES and Sarah FELLOW. He was the next to youngest son, being the fifth 
child of six children. He served in the American Revolution. After the 
Revolution, he resettled in Georgia moving to various counties. Like Harris, 
Green, Hancock, and I think Taliaferro is one of them. His wife's name was 
Elizabeth. Richard died in Sumter County Georgia in 1851. Children were Salley, 
Polley, James, and Zilpha.
