He was son of William M. Harrison and Martha Rhodes. Wiley Jones’ cemetery book shows his tombstone inscription as “T. J. Harrison,” which is incorrect. His tombstone clearly shows the inscription as “J. T. Harrison. (See photo on Taliaferro Co. GenWeb Archives, Cemetery section, Crawfordville Baptist Church Cemetery.) In addition, the inscription on the tombstone of his second wife, Amanda Hackney, states that she was “Wife of J. T. Harrison.” (Photo also posted on Taliaferro Co. Archvies.) He was a Confederate Soldier, listed as Sergeant in the 3rd Regiment Cavalry (State Guards), Company D. There is some confusion regarding his military record as there are two listings: (1) J. T. Harrison and (2) Thomas J. Harrison. The records are identical and one record shows that Thomas J. Harrison was an alternate name for J. T. Harrison. This seems very likely as, to date, no Thomas J. Harrison has been found in Taliaferro Co. records. Tom Harrison was married twice and had children by each marriage. His first marriage was to Sarah Ann Darracott, Jan. 13, 1853 (Taliaferro Co. Mar. Bk. A, p. 241). She was b. ca. 1835 and apparently died sometime between 1857 and 1860. She was daughter of James B. & Tabitha (Conner) Darracott. He married second to Amanda M. Hackney, Nov. 23, 1860 (Taliaferro Co. Mar. Bk. A, p. 291) Amanda was b. March 22, 1835, d. May 7, 1893, buried Crawfordville Baptist Cemetery. She was daughter of James T. & Mary (Jeffries) Hackney. He left a will in Taliaferro Co. dated March 17, 1919 and probated Feb. 2, 1924. In his will he names his four daughters, Mrs. Fannie Elizabeth Flynt, Mrs. Anna Estella Moore, Mrs. Margaret Ophelia Allen and Mrs. Mary Jane McGiboney. (Taliaferro Co. Will Rec. C., page 8.) CHILDREN BY SUSAN A. DARRACOTT: 1. James William Harrison, b. ca. 1856. No further information. He is not named in his father’s will and may have died young. He last appears in Taliaferro Co. records in the 1870 census, listed as age 16. 2. Margaret Ophelia Harrison, b. Nov. 4, 1855, d. Feb. 27, 1925. She married Nathan A. Allen, Dec. 17, 1874 (Taliaferro Co. Mar. Bk. B, p. 66.). Both buried Crawfordville Baptist Cemetery. Nathan Allen was b. June 12, 1852, d. July 4, 1927, son of John T. Allen and Susan M. Chapman. 3. Mary Jane Harrison, b. Dec. 1, 1857, Taliaferro Co., d. Oct. 7, 1929, Taliaferro Co., married (as his second or third(?) wife) to William Robert McGibony, April 11, 1897 (Taliaferro Co. Mar. Bk. C., p. 357). Both buried Crawfordville Baptist Cemetery. CHILDREN BY AMANDA HACKNEY: 1. Frances Elizabeth Harrison, b. Sept. 16, 1861, d. Jan. 29, 1942, married (as his second wife) to Henry H. Flynt, Feb. 22, 1883 (Taliaferro Co. Mar. Bk. B, p. 149). Both buried Crawfordville Baptist Cemetery. Henry H. Flynt is listed in the 1900 census as being born May 1845. He was son of Augustus Wesley Flynt and Sarah D. McCoy. 2. Anna Estella Harrison, b. Feb. 6, 1863, d. March 18, 1939, married Marion E. Moore, May 17, 1888, (Taliaferro Co. Mar. Bk. B, p. 194). Both buried Crawfordville Baptist Cemetery. SOURCES: 1. Tombstone Inscriptions, Crawfordville Baptist Cemetery. 2. Will of William M. Harrison, (Taliaferro Co. Will Rec. B., p. 142) 3. Taliaferro Co.
