Taliaferro County GaArchives History .....Crawfordville Farmer's Alliance Minutes ************************************************ Copyright. For those who have read the Baptist Church minutes of the period, there is a striking similarity in the way the minutes were taken, and the procedures for membership. The Alliance was not only a business organization, but also political in nature. They took out ads in local papers endorsing political allies, and distributed political flyers to the citizens of the community. They were also benevolent towards members that were in need of financial help due to sickness or death. Two women were elected members of this fraternal alliance; they were Mrs. M.A. Lunceford and Mrs. L.A. Ogletree. However they were not included in the roll of the organization, the applications of these two women are the only ones included in these records. Only one quarterly report of June 30, 1894 has these two women included. Note: Mikki Martin, whom is an authority on the Lunceford’s of Taliaferro County, indicates that Martha A. P. Evans, the wife of Strozier Lunceford is probably the Mrs. M.A. Lunceford mentioned in the minutes. “Strozier Lunceford died in 1864 from an illness contracted while serving in the Confederate Army”. Toward the end of 1893 the Crawfordville Alliance was having problems with a newly elected group of men who failed to accept the offices. Subsequently another election was held to fill the vacancies. It was after this election that the last entry of the minutes was made in November 1893. Several quarterly reports were made to the County Alliance, but are not included in this transcription. The last one is dated June 30, 1894. The reports included the number of male members, number of female members, names of the officers of the chapter, number of males initiated in the current quarter, number of males and female received by card, and number of males demitted. The reports also include the amount of dues sent to the County Alliance. My thanks to those researchers at the end of this transcription, who so freely gave there information for the benefit of others. Transcribed in December of 2004 James D.
