DERRACOTT HEAVILY FINED

He Was Charged with Insulting a Young Lady on Capitol Avenue

A fine of $100.75 or thirty days in the stockade at hard labor was imposed on 
F. S. Derracott, a young white man, by Judge Broyles in police court yesterday 
afternoon, on a charge of insulting a young lady residing on Capitol avenue.

The evidence was to the effect that Derracott met the lady on the streets on 
three different occasions, and the second time he caught her by the arm. She 
became indignant, pulled away from Derracott, so she said, and called him a low 
puppy.

After she reported the matter to her husband he put a revolver in his pocket 
and went out to find Derracott with the intention of killing him.

When this was testified to in court Derracott, who was standing next to the 
enraged husband, asked the court to put an officer between the witness and 
himself as he feared violence.

Patrolman Jackson testified that several years ago Derracott, who was then in 
the soda water business, had been fined $50.75 for a similar offense at the car 
shed. This fact Derracott denied.

The prisoner denied that he had insulted any one, and said it was doubtless a 
case of mistaken identity. The witnesses were positive in their identification, 
however, and a fine of $100.75 was imposed.



Additional Comments:
Although living in Atlanta at the time of the incident, Frank Darracott was 
born and raised in Taliaferro Co.  He was born 16 March 1870, Taliaferro Co., 
died 29 Oct. 1941, Atlanta, GA, son of John W. & Susan Ann (Chapman) 
Darracott.
