Beazley and Ora Holden Beazley of Crawfordville, GA died on June 7, 2004 at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, GA. Mr. Beazley lived in Crawfordville in his youth and attended the public schools in Crawfordville. After attending Oglethorpe College in Atlanta he began his medical studies at Emory University. After a few years he changed to business and worked with his uncle at Thompson, Boland, and Lee Shoe Stores in Atlanta. He left Atlanta and moved to Crawfordville in the 1940's to run the family store, Holden & Co.. He became the mayor of the town in the early 50's and served in the office for two terms. In the late 50's he and his family moved back to Atlanta to continue working for his uncle at Thompson, Boland & Lee Shoe Stores. He was assistant manager of approximately 10 stores throughout metro Atlanta.In addition to being a successful shoe salesman and mayor of a small town, Mr. Beazley was also an advocate for peace during the civil rights era in Atlanta. He became personal friends of Martin Luther King Sr. After retiring in the late 1970's he and his wife moved to Bent Tree, a retirement community in Jasper, GA. He and his wife were founding members of the New Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Jasper. The both also served as elders of the church.He was preceded in death by his wife Josephine by only 41 hours. The two were married for 67 years. They are survived by three children, Nancy Hutto of Roswell, Arthur Beazley of Woodstock, and Helen Kacynski of Woodstock, GA. They also have two grandchildren, Mark Hutto of Jacksonville, FL and Helen H. Halloran of Marietta; three great grandsons, Holden, Whitaker, and Walker Hutto of Jacksonville, FL.
